Washington Nationals trade all-star Matt Capps to Minnesota Twins

The Washington Nationals traded closer Matt Capps to the Minnesota Twins for highly regarded catching prospect Wilson Ramos late Thursday night. The move likely will hasten the ascension of rookie Drew Storen, the 10th pick of last year's draft, to the closer's role while sending the team's only all-star to Minnesota.

The Nationals also included $500,000 in the deal and will receive left-handed relief pitcher Joe Testa, who was recently demoted from Class AA New Britain to Class A Fort Myers.

Ramos, 22, currently at Class AAA Rochester, gives the Nationals a catcher to potentially replace Jesús Flores, whose shoulder surgery and subsequent setbacks have placed his future in doubt. Ramos, rated the No. 58 prospect in baseball before the season by Baseball America, appeared in seven games with the Twins in May.

The Internet Safety Task Force carried out a recent study which concluded that everyone can be put in danger particularly young people. It can be in the form of bullying, being sexually accosted or exposed by inappropriate content.

The interview is part of the docu-series “If You Really Knew Me”.

Poppino was a senior at the Freedom High School in Oakley California when he made this confession. For the docu-series debut episode, it will turn its spotlight on Freedom High School and the activity called Challenge Day that was held August of last year.

MTV is coming with a another reality show ‘If you really knew me’. This series is pictured in synchronization with Challenge Day. Tempe Town Lake became a great danger for the residents of the town as the rubber bladders which stopped the outflow of water burst and water started to come out of the dam with a speed of fifteen thousand cubic feet per second, this amount of water is too much and was coming out with a great speed. The portion of the dam which burst open was sixteen feet high and it was close to the Arizona University. The authorities stated that no buildings have come into danger and no injuries or deaths have been reported to them.

The persons who witnessed the event state that there was a sudden loud sound which was followed by the water spill, the dry bed of the Salt River got filled up with water and the animals which were present in the waters path started to run away with fear. Just as the Tempe Town Lake started to spill the police and rescue officers rushed to the river bed in order to warn any people who might be camping in the river bed, as people often do this in the summer season. No such people have been heard to be harmed but there are possibilities that some might have drowned in the water and their bodies might be found after some time.

Pat Haden, USC's New AD, Replaces Mike Garrett

Southern California is cleaning house in its tarnished athletic department, throwing out much of what got the school in severe NCAA trouble.

Athletic director Mike Garrett and Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy are the first two items to go.

In a letter to school supporters Tuesday, incoming USC president Max Nikias said Garrett will be replaced Aug. 3 by Pat Haden, the former Trojans quarterback who became a successful businessman and a member of USC's board of trustees. The NCAA cited Garrett's administration for a lack of institutional control while slapping the school with heavy sanctions last month, but Haden believes he can change the culture of a program that has been wildly successful and heavily scrutinized over the past decade.

"We're going to do better," said Haden, also the color analyst on NBC's Notre Dame broadcasts for the past decade. "We have to do better. We don't have any choices here. We stub our toe, there's going to be some problems."

Apple Earnings Crush Estimates, Stock Soars

Technology titan Apple (AAPL) laid waste to Wall Street expectations Tuesday, reporting record revenue and earnings on strong sales of the company's iPhone and iPad devices, which have proved to be massive hits with consumers. Despite lingering concerns over the iPhone 4 antenna problem, the company offered a very optimistic outlook for next quarter.

It was the strongest performance by revenue in the history of the 34-year-old company, which earlier this year surpassed erstwhile rival Microsoft (MSFT) in market capitalization. The company reported profit of $3.25 billion, a 78% increase over last year.

Investors sent the Apple's shares up 5% in after-hours trading. "These numbers will go a long way to make people forget about any antenna issues," Edward Jones analyst Bill Kreher told Reuters.

Apple habitually low-balls expectations, but the firm's performance over the last eighteen months has been nothing short of extraordinary. The company's share price is up 20% so far this year and 65% over the last 12 months. Over the last three years, Apple CEO Steve Jobs has tripled Apple's revenue and quadrupled the company's earnings.

Piniella announced Tuesday he will retire at the end of the season, completing a storied and often colorful career that included 18 years in the majors as a player and another 22 as a manager.

The 66-year-old Piniella, who made five trips to the World Series in his career and has three championship rings, said he was looking forward to spending more time with his family. He didn't rule out consulting for the Cubs or another team, but made it clear he was getting out of the daily grind.

Mike Garret Will Retire as US Athletic Director

Mike Garrett, the embattled longtime athletic director at the University of Southern California, will step down on August 3rd, according to a report by the L.A. Times.

Garrett has been under fire for the troubles in both the basketball and football programs, and responded in a mature fashion by accepting responsibility for the issues, and promised to resolve them as the head of the program. He spoke to USC's sanctioning by the NCAA in the Reggie Bush scandal in particular.

As I read the decision by the NCAA, all I could get out of all of this was … I read between the lines and there was nothing but a lot of envy, and they wish they all were Trojans," Garrett said to cheers Thursday night at the San Francisco Airport Marriott.

Playboy’s Smoking Jacket Website May Be Good News for Kevin Ham

According to a report in today’s New York Post, Playboy is rolling out a website that should be safe for people to view at work or other environments where nudity and sexual content would be inappropriate. The new website will be known as TheSmokingJacket.com, and it intentionally contains no references to Playboy, allowing it to bypass work filters that have “playboy” blocked.

The article cited Theresa Hennessey, spokeswoman for Playboy who said that Playboy’s editorial director Jimmy Jellinek “will be pleased if TheSmokingJacket.com receives 1 million unique visitors a month.“ Playboy’s flagship website, Playboy.com receives around 6 million visitors per month.

The website was aptly named The Smoking Jacket because of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner’s love for silk smoking jackets. Ironically, the Post’s article joked that Playboy chose the name they did because SilkPajamas.com was already registered, but it should be noted that SmokingJacket.com is similarly registered (since 2000) and it appears to be owned by one of Kevin Ham’s companies.

18 Titi Monkeys Tried to be Smuggled Under Man’s T-Shirt

Authorities at Mexico City’s International airport have arrested a man that was carrying 18 titi monkeys in his clothes. Suspicious grew larger when upon questioning he became very nervous. These titi monkeys are an endangered species.

The man who allegedly tried to smuggle the animals has been identified as Roberto Cabrera, 38. Two of the tiny monkeys didn’t survive the rough handling and “packing”.

Cabrera, according to migration papers, arrived from Lima, Peru carrying these creatures. He has stated he bought the monkey in his travel at $30 each, but even if his claims are true, he must know we are talking here about an endangered animal, and their transportation requires a special permit for travel.

Character actor James Gammon, 70, dies

James Gammon, a character actor whose gravelly voice and craggy face made indelible memories in Sam Shepard plays, a spate of western TV shows and films, plus a comic turn in the baseball movie “Major League,” has died. He was 70.

Gammon died Friday surrounded by his family at his daughter’s home in Costa Mesa, where he and his wife, Nancy, had been living. He had cancer of the adrenal glands and the liver.

Gammon may be best known for his role as Lou Brown, manager of the hapless Cleveland Indians in the 1989 comedy “Major League” and its 1994 sequel. He stood out with key roles in many films including “Urban Cowboy,” “The Milagro Beanfield War,” “Leaving Normal,” “Ironweed,” “Silverado” and “Cold Mountain.”

On television he played the father on “Nash Bridges” from 1996 to 2001, though he was only nine years older than star Don Johnson. He also had recurring roles in the TV series “The Waltons,” “Bagdad Cafe,” “Homefront” and “Middle Ages,” a central role in the 1995 miniseries “Streets of Laredo” and a host of guest appearances ranging from “Gunsmoke” and other westerns in the 1960s to “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2007.

Since the terror attacks of Sept. 11, top-secret intelligence gathering by the government has grown so unwieldy and expensive that no one really knows what it cost and how many people are involved, The Washington Post reported Monday.

A two-year investigation by the newspaper uncovered what it termed a "Top Secret America" that's mostly hidden from public view and largely lacking in oversight.

“This was a criminal act, and You Tube needs to investigate, track the IP and find out who did it,” said Alex Jones.

In the movie, Raven-Symone stars as Abigail Scanlon and Joanna Garcia as Parker Wald, best friends since childhood returning to their small, Southern home town from New York City for a visit. After running into old friends, they learn that their close friend, Rachel (Chryssie Whitehead), has lost the love of her life, Tony (Lyle Brocato), to their ex-friend Caitlin (Virginia Williams) – a conniving gold-digger. Intent upon preventing a loveless marriage, Parker and Abigail go “undercover” as Caitlin’s bridesmaids to sabotage the wedding. Along the way, Caitlyn’s tightly-wound mother, Olivia (Beth Broderick), works hard to keep Abigail and Parker at bay, and Parker falls for the town cop and groomsman, Henry (David Rogers).
